“Partita for solo violin and still images” was specially created for violinist Barbara Lunenburg as part of the research project “Embodying Expression, Gender, Charisma - Exploring Classical Instrumental Practices.” In this piece, we hear echoes of the Baroque period’s restrained musical vocabulary and forms. The elements are mirrored in carefully controlled body parts of the performer that are captured in the still images. These images guide the audience’s focus to specific body parts controlled by the performer, creating a synchronized experience, together with rhythmic patterns both in the musical composition and the accompanying still images.
